AI Open Comments Summaries
Open comments are often where respondents express the most meaningful feedback – their thoughts, emotions, and improvement ideas. However, reading and summarizing them manually can be one of the most time-consuming parts of survey analysis. The AI Open Comments Summary feature in Survalyzer automates this process. It uses AI to summarize open-ended answers into clear, readable text that highlights main topics, sentiment, and ideas – all within seconds.
Note: Currently there are 2 ways to analyze open comments with AI in Survalyzer:
- One-click AI Open Comments Summary – great for quick qualitative understanding of results based on max 500 sample comments.
- AI Open Comments Analytics per each interview with aggregated results – great for surveys where fixed topics codeplan, detailed quantitative results, and changes in time are important.

When to Use AI Open Comments Summary
This feature is designed for all scenarios where you want to quickly understand open comments summary from selected dataset, and your focus is more on qualitative understanding than on topics frequencies details. Example scenarios:
- First step in any open comments analysis scenario. Whether you just need some quick general understanding of the results, or you plan to invest more time in creating a detailed open comments analysis for you NPS tracker, AI Open Comment Summary feature is an excellent way to start your journey.
- Ad hoc surveys. It usually doesn’t pay off to invest time and resources to run sophisticated text analytics for casual one-off surveys, that won’t be repeated. AI open comment summaries is an excellent solution to quickly understand ad hoc survey results.
- Qualitative drill-downs: e.g. what our NPS promoters say? With this feature, you can filter your data first and create ai summary for every interesting segment.
- Instant report input. With one click you get report-ready qualitative summary of your open comments, that you can use in your own report.
How to create AI Open Comments Summary
AI summaries can be created directly in the Expert Report Wizard within the Questions step. The process is intuitive and requires just a few clicks:

2. Go to the Questions step, select an open-ended question and click Generate AI Summary:
3. In the configuration modal, select Language of the summary and expected summary length:
4. Wait a few seconds while AI processes the data. Review the result and click Add to report to include it:
5. Once added, the summary appears within selected question analysis in the final report:
Additional information on settings and logic
- Max 500 answers are used as a sample. AI analyses uses random sample of up to 500 responses or up to 300,000 total characters. Only responses with at least 2 letters are used. Information about the exact number of comments used for analysis is attached in the summary footer.
- At least 30 responses are required. At least 30 responses are needed to run the analysis.
- Filters are included. Any filters defined earlier in the report wizard are applied to the analysis as well. So that you can create ai open comments summary e.g. only for you NPS promoters, and drill-down even further.
- Segmentation is ignored. Any segmentation defined earlier in the report wizard is ignored, there is always only one summary generated per question.
- AI summary is a one-time shot, not dynamic. AI summary text does not automatically refresh in the report when new answers are collected, or when new filters are added after it was already generated. The summary remains static until manually generated again.
- Credits: The feature follows Survalyzer’s universal credits-based model; credits are only deducted for successfully generated summaries. Credits usage is fixed regardless of the summary size or the number of comments used for analysis.
- Deletion. To delete AI summary from the report, uncheck the “AI Summary” box under the question or deselect the entire question from the report.
- Compliance. All analyses are processed securely within Survalyzer’s AI infrastructure, in compliance with GDPR standards. Data processing takes place within the EEA region and is GDPR Compliant for our EU data center, for our Swiss data center the data is processed in CH. Visit our compliance center to learn more.
- AI model used. The feature is currently using GPT-5.4 model through azure OpenAI integration.
- Language. The summary is written in the language selected during setup. All Survalyzer supported languages are possible to select as target summary language.
