Feature available for accounts with users with Expert license
Create automated custom report with no effort, including extended segmentation options, boxed distribution, ai text analytics, data weighting, significance tests, and more.
Introduction
The Expert Report is available for Expert license users and supports advanced options such as:
- Custom table settings and chart selection
- Multiple segmentations (cross-tabs)
- Weighted data and significance tests
- Integration of AI text analytics
- Various report export formats, incl. pdf, ppt, xls, doc
- Possibility to convert to fully customizable Dashboard Reports (for accounts with dashboard extension)
How to create and customize Expert Report
Create Expert Report
To create an Expert Report, navigate to “Analyze” tab of the survey and select Expert Report from the “Add new report” menu:
Step 1: Report Name, Language and Layout
When creating a new Expert Report, the first wizard step allows to:
- Name the report: name will be visible as a sidebar title of the final report.
- Define the language: if report is based on multi-lingual survey, selected report language will define questions’ text language visible in the report.
- Report layout: it is possible to select one of the report layouts defined in the Library > Report Layouts, or select one of the color schemes defined in Account > Layout settings.
Step 2: Report Filter
The “Filter” step allows to configure filter conditions defining which interviews should be included in the analysis.
By default, a filter for Completed interviews is pre-applied. It can be modified or removed.
All standard filter conditions and logical operators are supported, including, interview state, bariable-based conditions, date ranges or custom criteria.
Step 3: Segments
The “Segments” step enables comparing each question results between defined groups of respondents. It is possible to select simple cross-tabs, or configure more complex custom segments logic.
Segmentation options include:
- Variable-based segmentation. This option allows to automatically create segments based on your selected variable values available in survey raw data. It is possible to select any variable type, including question variables, custom variables, etc. It is also possible to overwrite automatic segments names for the report purpose by overwriting default survey labels in “Survey > Analyze > Manage codeplan” editor.
- Custom segments. This option allows to manually define each desired segment using custom filter conditions. This can be used if you want to create one table per question and use multiple segmentation variables.
- Time-based segmentation This option allows to segment data by defined period: day, week, month, quarter, or year.
Multiple segmentation types can be added and configured in one report. It will result in creating multiple tables & chart per each question, one per each segmentation defined.
Each segmentation receives an automatic name, for example Segmented by Age. This name will be later used directly in the report.
Step 4: Questions
The “Questions” step allows selecting which survey questions should appear in the report and how they should be represented.
Select questions
In “Default tables” mode, selecting question is straightforward. Just browse and select which questions or sections you want to include in the report.
Select chart types
Available chart types depend on question type and segmentation defined in the earlier step. Typical options include bar, column, stacked, spider, line, pie, and gauge charts.
Default tables / Custom tables mode
On the top right there is a toggle that allows to switch between two table creation modes:
- Default tables – default analysis version for each question. Chart type still possible to select.
- Custom tables – possibility to customize analysis for each question.
When custom tables mode is selected, there are following additional options present, depending on the question type:
Aggregators
Aggregators define what type of statistic is calculated in tables. Available options include:
- Count
- Percentage
- Mean
- Median
- Minimum / Maximum
- Sum
Rows / Column groups settings
Depending on question type, it is possible to control whether rows or column groups are created per variable value, or per variable.
For example:
- Frequencies are usually calculated per each variable value (e.g. % result per each likert scale option)
- Means are usually calculated for the entire variable (e.g. mean result of the likert scale)
Aggregators together with rows and column group settings give the flexibility to construct desired table and calculations.
Top Box / Bottom Box
One of the Rows / Column groups settings is Top / Bottom box. This setting allows to define top / middle / bottom box values and perform calculations on them.
Usual use case is defining Top2Box or Top3Box of the scale-based question to understand total positive answers distribution across all results.
Significance tests
Expert Report supports statistical significance testing between segments.
Significance testing feature is available when there is at least one segmentation defined on the segments step of the wizard.
It is possible to select between 90%, 95% and 99% confidence levels. When activated, significant differences are automatically highlighted within each table cell with segment-related letter.
Interviews weighting
Interviews weighting allows to adjust the influence of respondents in calculations.
Important: Interviews’ weights values need to be calculated first before being able to create report with weighted data. Interviews’ weights can be calculated automatically with dedicated Survalyzer interviews weighting feature (recommended), or manually calculated somewhere else and uploaded to custom variable. When interview weighting feature is enabled in table settings, users can define which variable should be used as interview weight. This will result in showing weighted data in the report.
Optionally, it is also possible show unweighted base to compare results reliability between weighted and original counts.
AI Open Comments analysis
Open-ended questions results presentation can be enriched with AI-supported text analytics.
Currently there are 2 ways to analyze open comments with AI in Survalyzer:
1. One-click AI Open Comments Summary – great for quick qualitative understanding of results based on max 500 sample comments.
2. AI Open Comments Analytics per each interview with aggregated results – great for surveys where fixed topics codeplan, detailed quantitative results, and changes in time are important.
Important: To create tables & charts based on per interview AI open comments analysis (2nd feature mentioned above), you need to first configure this feature for your survey raw data. Read more in the article linked above.
Step 5: Report Settings
The “Report settings” step includes general and online report options:
- Report structure: all questions analysis on one report page vs each question on separate page.
- Report content: tables & charts, or tables only.
- Page width: it is possible to adjust online report page width, which might be needed to increase report readability in multiple segments analysis scenario.
Step 6: Report Access
On the last wizard step, the report is already created. There are following possible ways to access the report:
Online Report
Access online report with a dedicated report link.
Private vs public link visibility is controlled with Data access settings in the survey analyze sidebar settings.
Download report
Possibility to export report to the desired format. Available export formats: Word, PDF, Excel, PowerPoint. Example excel report:
Convert to Dashboard
For accounts with Dashboard extension, it is also possible to convert Expert Report into a Dashboard report type. This allows for further report customization directly inside fully flexible Dashboard builder.
