Design of your survey

This page allows you to select a survey layout for the created survey. This is done as follows:

  • Click on the green Select survey layout button at the top right of the screen. A green box opens showing the survey layouts available in your workspace.
  • Click on the desired survey layout. Once selected, the corresponding description is placed in the Selected survey layout field. This description cannot be modified.

Once you have selected a survey layout for the survey in question, you can use this page to indicate the elements that should or should not be shown in the survey. In addition, you can also adjust the width of the matrix sub questions (rows) and the highlight colour.

Note: You can only change the design of a survey, if the corresponding survey has not been activated (published) yet. In order to change the design of an already activated survey, the status of this survey must be set to ‘Revised’ (for this, you must click the Edit survey button).

Preview (1)

When you click this button, you will see a preview of the designed survey. This is the survey which is displayed to a participant, once he/she is invited to participate. If you have changed any settings, it may take a few seconds to reload the survey.

Note: If the preview does not refresh, please reload the page.

Width of the matrix sub question (2)

This setting allows you to set the width of the rows in a matrix question. The default option is M.

If, for example, the descriptions of the products or services to be rated are not very long, you can select the S option.

Main header (3)

The main header can be displayed on any page of the survey; it can be used to show a company logo and the title of the survey. In this case, the 3 elements (Main header, Logo & Main heading) must be ticked. If you do not want a header in your survey, remove the check mark from Main header; the check marks from the underlying elements will automatically be removed. Of course, you can also choose to include just a logo or a title.

Logo: If you click in the box for inserting a logo, a link labeled Rich Text Editor will appear at the top right of this box. Clicking on this link will launch the RTE window. The procedure How to add an image? describes how to insert a logo into a survey.

Main heading: If you click in the box for inserting a header, a link labeled Rich Text Editor will appear at the top right of this box. Clicking on this link will launch the RTE window allowing you to specify the desired survey title. The procedure How to change the text format? describes how to format the title description.

Sub heading (4)

The sub-header (i.e. the line below the main header) can be displayed on any page of the survey; it can be used to show a language selector and a progress bar of the survey. In this case, the 3 elements (Sub heading, Language selector & Progress bar) must be ticked. If you do not want a sub heading in your survey, remove the check mark from Sub heading; the check marks from the underlying elements will automatically be removed. Of course, you can also choose to include just a language selector or a progress bar.

Language selector: Adds a language selector to your survey. It allows the respondent to change the language on any page of the survey. It is a condition that the survey is drawn up in more than one language.

Progress bar: Adds a progress bar to your survey. This bar indicates on each page of the survey the percentage of questions already answered (including hidden/filtered questions), so the respondent has an indication of the extent of the survey (the remaining questions to be answered by him/her).

Footer (5)

The footer can be displayed on any page of the survey; it can be used to show contact info, for example.

Footer: If you click in the box for inserting a footer, a link labeled Rich Text Editor will appear at the top right of this box. Clicking on this link will launch the RTE window allowing you to specify the desired footer for the survey. The procedure How to change the text format? describes how to format this text.

Change highlight colour (6)

If you have checked this setting under Layout settings, you can set the colour of the radio buttons and checkboxes selected by the respondent in the field below. This also applies to the colour of the progress percentage and the Next and Send answers buttons. This way you can select a specific colour according to your house style.

The Change highlight colour setting will only appear on this page, if the Highlight colour setting is checked in the settings of the selected survey layout. Survey layouts can be maintained in the Survey layouts menu under Library.
