View basic report

On this screen you can view the response statistics of a survey. This way you can monitor which answers have been given by the different respondents to the various questions. You can study the chart for each question in which all the answers collected so far have been processed.

There is no chart for open questions unless the Response data type is validated using the Integer number or Real number criterion. Answers to open questions are usually displayed in a list without any further formatting.

In the figure above, you will find the response statistics of the total survey. These response statistics are always displayed as soon as you land on this page. Below the report name you will see the language used to write the report. Still a little lower, two percentages are shown in two individual semi-circle charts.

  • The first percentage under Completion Rate indicates the number of respondents that have fully completed the survey. The status is then set to Completed. For more info, see the topic What does the Survey Status mean?
  • The second percentage under the Started rate does NOT ONLY indicate the number of respondents that have fully completed the survey, BUT ALSO the number of respondents that actually activated the survey link, but have not yet completed the whole survey. The status for the latter group of respondents is in this case set to In progress.

The table indicates, among other things, the ratio between the number of sent invitations and the number of completed surveys. Below the table you will see the start date of the survey. To its right is the end date; this will be Ongoing, if the survey is still in progress.

Under Response per period you can view the number of respondents that have successfully completed the survey for each indicated date (on the horizontal axis). Here you will only see the results of the surveys that have been assigned the Complete status. The image above shows that, for example, 80 respondents completed the survey on January 21st, 2021.

The Set my filter setting is only displayed under the Response statistics concept and above the sections containing all the questions included in the survey (on the right-hand side of the screen), if the Allow viewers to filter data setting on the Activation screen is set to Yes. In this case, the one viewing the results on this screen can set his/her own filters.

As soon as the Set my filter setting has been activated, a screen appears on the left allowing you to define the required filter conditions in order to reduce the size of the report to tolerable proportions. This allows you to only retrieve the data that is interesting for you.

If no filter condition has yet been set, the number of interviews will be exactly the same as the number of participants invited to fill out the survey, see above at Interviews included in filter: xxx (red framed box).

However, as soon as one filter condition has been defined (e.g. Interview state is Completed), the number of respondents (interviews) that matches this condition, is directly updated and displayed, see above. This also applies to the description of the setting (Set my filter becomes Edit my filter). The filter icon - in the form of a funnel - indicates that at least one filter condition has been defined.

By now clicking the Response statistics concept on the right, you can check for each question (below) which answers were provided by the adjusted number of respondents.

To view the effect of a different filter condition, you can click on the Edit my filter setting and adjust the filter condition(s) on the left side.

NoteA filter condition can be easily removed from the screen using the bin icon.

Under the Response statistics concept and the Set my filter setting, if present, you will find all the sections and associated questions of the survey. When you select a question from the overview, you will usually be presented with the chart selected for the question and the accompanying report table on the left-hand side. The chart type can be specified for each question on the Select questions screen (i.e. the second stage when adding a new report).

In the figure above, we are dealing with a stacked bar chart. This type is mainly used to compare the proportional share of each answer option against the total number of answer options. The total of all proportional shares is always 100%. Each separate part in the horizontal bar represents one of the provided answer options of the selected survey question.

Based on the data in the figure above, the following can be concluded:

  • The Mathematics answer option which corresponds to the black part in the horizontal bar, was selected by 2 out of a total of 30 respondents. This amounts to a rounded off percentage of 7%.
  • The German answer option which corresponds to the red part in the horizontal bar, was selected by 5 out of a total of 30 respondents. This amounts to a rounded off percentage of 17%, etc.

When you have viewed and/or examined the online report, you can close it by clicking the button at the top left of the screen. You will then return directly to the analysis overview.

You can always revert to the online survey report in the same way. You will do this, for example, in case of a running survey, as not all answers have yet been collected.
